The Buie Tapestry

If you were a teenage girl in the late 1960s and early 1970s, chances are you owned the album (you know, the big black CD-looking thing) Tapestry by Carole King. I love every song on this album but the title song was such a deep song and even if I were to forget the rest of the song, I will never forget the first verse. I didn't fully understand, at 16, how a life can be like a tapestry, but at age 62, I get it! So many things happen throughout life, some things so bad you just don't want to go on and some so good that you can hardly wait for the next day....but all these things woven together are what make up who you are....a fine piece of work that cannot be duplicated exactly because each is unique. Corrie Ten Boom's poem "Life is But a Weaving" is just as beautiful. She reminds us that a tapestry has a backside that is not beautiful. It has all the loose threads and knots where the weaving has been stopped and started, the threads changed. But you turn it over and see just how beautiful the finished product is. I want to dwell on the Other Side, not the Under Side!
